Berkeley Scholars To Cal
Berkeley Scholars To Cal provides 75 African American and Chicano/Latino students with comprehensive, ongoing college preparation for eight years prior to their graduation from high school.
The program provides each student with 250 hours of direct service per year, including:
- A Black or Latino University of California, Berkeley student as personal mentor
- Summer, Saturday and after-school academies
- Home visits and case management by an African-American Cal graduate
Results to date:
- 90% first cohort at UC, CSU, private colleges
- 50% second cohort competitive for UC Berkeley
- 3.28 GPA (vs. 2.27 for control group)
- 80% PSAT above the 50th percentile (higher than whites nationally)
