What is Experience Berkeley?

Experience Berkeley (EB) is a free program that assists Black, Latino, & Native American students in the completion of their UC application and personal statements. We provide students with mentors, tools, and resources to develop a competitive UC application and ultimately, triple our program participant’s admit rate into UC Berkeley.

How much does the program cost?

The program is free. Food and workshop materials will provided at each workshop. Students will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from each workshop.

What will I do in the program?

Throughout the program students will have the opportunity to:

  • Students are mentored by Black and Latino UC Berkeley undergraduates, who provide one-on-one support throughout the entire UC application process.
  • Meet one-on-one with UC Berkeley admission officers
  • Become familiar with UCB campus
  • Receive information on college life & scholarships
  • Learn how to choose the right college major
  • Network with other program participants at our program workshops

What are the 2019 program workshop dates?

Program participants will attend workshops based on the region they live in. Below you find more details about the workshop dates, times, and locations for your region:

Northern California Cohort Workshop Dates

  1. Workshop 1 (2 day workshop): Friday, July 19th, 2019 (12-6pm) and  Saturday, July 20th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley
  2. Workshop 2: Saturday, August 17th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley
  3. Workshop 3: Saturday, October 19th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley

Central Valley Cohort Workshop Dates

  1. Workshop 1 (2 day workshop): Friday, July 19th, 2019 (12-6pm) and  Saturday, July 20th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley
  2. Workshop 2: Saturday, August 10th, 2019 (10-4:30pm) at Santa Monica Community College
  3. Workshop 3: Saturday, October 19th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley

Southern California Cohort Workshop Dates

  1. Workshop 1 (2 day workshop): Friday, July 19th, 2019 (12-6pm) and  Saturday, July 20th, 2019 (10:00am-4:30pm) at UC Berkeley
    • Housing/Transportation: On-campus housing will be provided for students from SoCal. However, you will be responsible for transportation to and from UC Berkeley for Workshop #1.
    • SoCal students who are unable to attend Workshop #1 at UC Berkeley may attend a make-up workshop on Saturday July, 13th 2019 from (10-4:30pm) at Santa Monica college.
  2. Workshop 2: Saturday, August 10th, 2019 (10-4:30pm) at Santa Monica Community College
  3. Workshop 3: Saturday, October 12th, 2019 (10-4:30pm) at Santa Monica Community College

Where will the workshops occur?

For students in Northern California and the Bakersfield region the workshops will occur at UC Berkeley & Stiles Hall. Students arrange their own transportation (we will help you with logistics) to UC Berkeley.

For students in Southern California the workshops will occur at Santa Monica College (except for the first one held at UC Berkeley). Students from Greater Los Angeles, Inland Empire, and San Diego must arrange their own transportation (we will help with logistics) to the workshop location(s).

What is the goal of Experience Berkeley?

Experience Berkeley aims to increase the representation of Black, Latino, and Native American students at UC Berkeley. Our program is committed to helping the University of California with its goal of creating a student body that is representative of the State of California.

What are the program outcomes?

  • Over 50% success rate of Black, Latino and Native American students getting into UC Berkeley via competitive application development.
